Marketing a healthcare practice: where to start

Good care deserves to be found. A practical, ethical starting point for growing a practice in Zimbabwe.

Many excellent practices rely entirely on word of mouth. It works, but slowly and unpredictably. A simple, consistent plan can fill the diary without compromising professional standards.

1. Start with your numbers

Know which services earn the best margin and which days have empty slots. Marketing should fill the gaps that matter most, not just bring in "more patients".

2. Get the basics right

3. Educate, don't advertise

Short posts and videos that answer real patient questions build trust far better than promotions. Before publishing, check your professional council's rules on advertising, which commonly restrict claims, testimonials and price promotions.

4. Build partnerships

Corporate wellness days, school screenings, sports clubs and referral relationships with other providers bring in patients steadily, and often more cost-effectively than paid adverts.

5. Measure it

Ask every new patient how they found you, and track enquiries and bookings each month. Keep what works; drop what doesn't.

A monthly plan beats occasional bursts: four useful posts a month, one partnership activity a quarter, and a simple report on what each brought in.
